Page 1 of 2 Foods from Spain has announced the winner of its National Primary Schools Competition, part of its promotional campaign for 2008.
Children from North Yorkshire primary school North Duffield beat almost 500 entries from classes around the country with their “Say Olé to 5-a-day” collage, which shows a graceful dancer wearing a dress covered in Spanish fruit and vegetables. The judging panel for the competition included food journalists, chefs and representatives of Foods from Spain and the Spanish Embassy, who were pleased with the children’s knowledge of fresh fruit and vegetables from Spain, and the link they made to the 5-a-day campaign. The National Primary Schools Competition was launched in April, as a generic element in Foods from Spain’s 2008 promotion for fresh Spanish fruit and vegetables. The competition asked classes in years three to six from all primary schools in the UK, to produce a collage that represented ‘Healthy eating with fresh fruit and vegetables from Spain’, using materials from glossy magazines to dried fruit and nuts. Director of Foods from Spain, María José Sevilla said: “We were thrilled with the response to our second National Primary Schools Competition. As well as receiving more entries to the competition than last year, we also saw an incredibly high standard of collages.
